Look for the HCC Art Car Cooperative ambulance. Directed by professor Ashley Hope, the 2021 entry is designed and made by students, who came up with the theme “Terra Firma." Showcasing the collaboration of many COE's in a cross-disciplinary project, HCC is in the process of designing and building an Art Car for the 2021 Art Car Experience of Houston. We are excited to have a full-size ambulance to transform into a mobile tribute to HCC’s dynamic community—thanks to the Public Safety, Transportation & Consumer Services COE, and the folks at the Emergency Medical Services Division. The process has unfolded over five semesters, across many divisions here at HCC, with the Art Car completed by May 01, 2021. The bulk of design and creative fabrication happens in the IDEAStudio Makerspace at the West Houston Institute. The resulting show-piece statement (see the drawing) will demonstrate how resilient the city of Houston is, always bouncing back stronger than ever after hardship like Harvey, Winter Storm Uri and Covid, but also how relevant and promising HCC is as a school and member of the Houston community at large. HCCTV videographer and student Caio de Aragon Cruz provides an update regarding the 2020 Houston Art Car Parade.
