Lonica Bush - Manager, Title IX
Title IX is a federal law, enacted in 1972, stating that no person on the basis of sex shall be “excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." The 2020 Federal Title IX Regulations cover sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. In addition, the Texas Education Code §51.982 protects pregnant and parenting students from discrimination and mandates accommodation for students. This session will cover students’ rights and show them how to file a complaint with the Office of Equal Opportunity for investigation and remedy.
