Jorge Tetl Argueta is a writer whose works are celebrated for depicting war and conflict in El Salvador, as well as celebrating immigrant and bicultural life in the United States. A Pipil Nahua Indian, Jorge writes in Spanish, English, and Nahua. In his new collection, En Carne Propia: Memoria poética / Flesh Wounds: A Poetic Memoir (Arte Público Press, 2017), Argueta plunges readers into the searing fear and violence that gripped his native El Salvador during the 1980s and led to his own exile in the United States. Argueta is also a celebrated Salvadoran writer of bilingual children’s books which have received numerous awards.
